Class AA No. 1 Fairmont defeated Redwood Valley 11-4 Friday in Redwood Falls to prepare for the Big South Conference baseball title game.
Fairmont’s 11-hit effort was led by Levi Pooley and Jack Kosbab’s four hits (three for extra bases) and seven RBIs.
Fairmont’s three-run fifth inning was highlighted by Pooley’s crucial triple.
Kosbab, who finished 2-for-3 with a game-high four RBIs, hit his second double with the bases loaded to start Fairmont’s three-run sixth inning and take a 9-3 lead.
Lincoln Becker went 2-for-5 with three RBIs and a run for Fairmont, while Pooley scored two runs.
Landen Meyerdirk went 2-for-5 with a run, Joseph Hackett went 2-for-3 with one RBI, and Nate Soelter doubled in four at-bats and scored two runs for Fairmont.
Fairmont won after Becker pitched two scoreless, hitless innings of relief with two strikeouts and no walks.
Fairmont’s Josh Soelter won the save with two hitless innings, one unearned run, three strikeouts, and no walks.
Meyerdirk began for Fairmont and allowed three earned runs on two hits, five walks, and one strikeout in three innings.
Fairmont (15-1) hosts Luverne at 1 p.m. today for the undisputed Big South Conference title at Herb Wolf Field.
Friday’s junior varsity game saw Fairmont beat Redwood Valley 6-0 with a two-hit shutout from starter Joe Long and closer Cole Brockmann.
Long won with a game-high 10 strikeouts, two walks, and one hit in five shutout innings. Brockmann pitched two scoreless innings, striking out two and walking one.
Fairmont’s Nolan Anderson doubled twice and drove in one run, while Tyler Bicknase went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Fairmont’s Trevor Maakestad and Nolyn Goerndt singled home a run.

Martin Luther/Truman/Granada-Huntley 4, Madelia 3—Ashlyn Cook’s RBI double in the bottom of the seventh forced extra innings, and Ella Nagorske’s bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the 10th gave the Jaguars the win in a Valley Conference Showcase game at Caswell Park in North Mankato.
Keira Benck and Londyn Bowers each went 2-for-5 with doubles for the Jaguars.
The Jaguars won with hits from Mandy Pytleski, Addison Sill, and Madisen Lewis.
Pytleski pitched a 10-inning complete game for the Jaguars with four hits. Pytleski allowed three unearned runs with six strikeouts and no walks.
The Jaguars meet the Cleveland Clippers at 5 p.m. on Tuesday in a Section 2A semifinal game.
