RB Leipzig will receive £52 million from Chelsea to complete the sale of France international attacker Christopher Nkunku.
Nkunku has agreed to a contract that will keep him playing for Chelsea for the next six years. His first day of training with the club will be on July 1.
It was claimed in October by Sky Sports News that Chelsea were prepared to pay more than the €60 million release clause for the 25-year-old player, which went into force this summer. However, it appears that Chelsea has now opted to meet that cost.
Nkunku, who came up through the youth ranks of the Paris Saint-Germain organization, stated that he is “extremely happy to be joining Chelsea.”
Chelsea sign RB Leipzig’s £52m Christopher Nkunku.
It took a lot of work to get me here, and I can’t wait to get to know my new teammates and coach, as well as to show the fans at Chelsea what I’m capable of doing out on the field.
“Christopher has proven himself to be one of the standout attacking players in European football over the past two seasons,” stated Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, who are co-sporting directors for Chelsea. “Christopher will add quality, creativity, and versatility to our squad,” added Stewart and Winstanley.
“He has already shown his ability at the highest level with RB Leipzig and France, and we are looking forward to him joining up with his new teammates ahead of the new season.” “He has already demonstrated his ability at the highest level.”
The purchase of 16-year-old Ecuadorian midfielder Kendry Paez to Chelsea from Independiente del Valle for €20 million (£17.27 million) marks Chelsea’s first signing of the summer. Nkunku is the club’s second signing of the summer. When he reaches 18 in 2025, he will finally become a member of the club.
