On Friday night at Herb Wolf Field in Fairmont, the Fairmont Junior Legion Post 36 baseball team defeated Blue Earth Area American Legion Post 89 17-0 with a 12-run inning.

“We didn’t have many hits and had some walks to score our runs tonight,” Fairmont head coach Brian Hackett said. “All three pitchers tonight threw hard and strikes. Good work.”

“We hit it hard that last inning,” Blue Earth Area head coach Jeff Bell said. “If we hit the ball like this to start the game, we would have been fine. Our kids are learning and playing a fun game. Baseball had a nice night.”

The Fairmont Junior Legion baseball team cruised to a victory.

Post 36 scored three runs in the first inning without a single. Merritt Pomerenke, Nolyn Goerndt, and Joseph Hackett scored three runs after walking. Nolan Anderson and Cameron Schmidtke hit sacrifice flies, and Joe Long walked with the bases loaded to score a run.

Goerndt’s groundout and a wild pitch allowed Pomerenke to score two more runs in the second for Post 36.

In the fourth inning, 17 Post 36 batters scored 12 runs off two Post 89 pitchers. All but Pomerenke got two at-bats in the inning.

Hits, wild pitches, a hit by pitch, a ground out, and a fielding error scored for Brian Hackett.

Joseph Hackett, Anderson, Trevor Maakestad, Long, and Cole Wiemers got RBIs.

Post 89 threatened in the fifth inning. With two outs, Drew Thomas singled down the third-base line and Hayden Veriede hit a good single to put runners on first and second, but the last batter struck out to end the threat and game.

Anderson led Post 36 with two hits, followed by Pomerenke, Joseph Hackett, Maakestad, Long, and Wiemers. Post-36 batters were hit twice and walked 13 times.

Post 36 pitcher Joseph Hackett won after two innings. Three strikeouts and no runs, hits, or walks.

Maakestad allowed 0 runs, two walks, and two strikeouts in two innings.

Anderson threw one scoreless inning

Three-inning Post 89 pitcher Kaden Ackerman lost. He allowed nine runs on two hits, 10 walks, one hit, and one strikeout.

Blue Earth’s Brody Haughn threw one inning, allowing eight earned runs on five hits, three walks, one hit batter, and no strikeouts.
