The 2023 Las Vegas Raiders Training Camp will examine their roster for the 2023-24 NFL season.
Chris Trapasso just named his AFC rookie sleepers on CBS Sports. Jakorian Bennett, the Raiders’ recently chosen cornerback, is a rookie sleeper.
The Raiders picked Bennett 104th in the 2023 NFL Draft. Bennett is a fast cornerback. Bennett was the quickest prospect at the 2023 NFL Combine, running a 4.3 40-yard sprint. Bennet has 24 pass breakups and five interceptions in two seasons at Maryland.
Chris Trapasso feels Jakorian Bennett may have been a steal for the Raiders.
My scouting grade book gave Bennett a Day 2 grade. He worked so hard on film. “He tested like an elite athlete at the combine,” Trapasso wrote. “While not quite as big and long as his first-round cornerback mate Deonte Banks, Bennett was around the football more frequently at Maryland and has legitimate perimeter-slot versatility.”
When the Raiders picked Bennett, GM Dave Ziegler lauded him. Ziegler gave his final draft news conference remarks.
“He improved his ability to defend the football,” Ziegler said, “especially making plays down the field which for a defensive back is one of the more difficult things where you’re running and tracking vertical routes, your back is to the quarterback, being able to find and play the ball.”
Jakorain Bennett’s rookie season and influence on the Raiders’ defense and cornerback room will be intriguing.
